From Struggle to Sobriety: A Journey with Hypnotherapy

I’m your average person – I have a partner, a couple of kids, and a full-time job. Life was ticking along as usual until the COVID-19 pandemic hit us. Following lockdown, something in my life started to change, something I didn’t immediately notice. My social drinking, an ‘every now and then’ affair, had turned into an everyday routine.

Unknowingly, a glass of wine with dinner had become finishing the bottle every evening. As my social life picked back up, my weekends were spent out with friends. Despite starting the evening with good intentions, I’d end up completely drunk. During the week, I was still on that bottle of wine a night. Stress from work and family life seemed to justify my desire for something to de-stress at the end of the day.

My attempts to moderate my intake were in vain. The cycle continued, and weekends were a wash out. Between my partner and me, we were just overwhelmed with all the things that needed to happen. This drinking habit was taking a toll on my sleep and overall wellbeing. I felt sluggish, discontent, and stressed more than ever.

I made deals with myself: “I won’t drink until the weekend”; “I’ll only drink beer in the week and save the hard stuff for the weekend”; “I’ll drink a glass of water in between drinks”. Yet, none of it worked for long, and I ended up feeling as bad as before, but with added guilt for my lack of willpower.

What happened next, changed my life!

Then, I stumbled upon the potential of hypnosis in managing cravings and boosting self-esteem. I decided to visit a hypnotherapist, admitting my struggle to moderate or stop my drinking. I was frustrated with my constant surrender to the craving for a drink and the social pressure that came with it.

The hypnotherapist explained how hypnosis could reinforce positive automatic responses to cravings and help me tap into my inner strength and determination. After three sessions, I found myself saying NO to alcohol without the struggle. It was as if I had found a new lease on life. It worked!
