Mindfulness and Happiness
Today I saw an interview with the amazing illusionist Derren Brown offering advice on overcoming anxiety in his new book ‘A Little Happier’.
What an excellent description of the benefits of mindfulness Derren provides, be aware, live with your feelings, acceptance of what is your present.
How clearly this reflects the 9 attitudes of mindfulness as described by Jon Kabat-Zinn:
- Non-judging
- Acceptance
- Patience
- Beginner’s mind
- Trust
- Non Striving
- Letting Go
- Gratitude
- Generosity
Grateful thanks to public figures such as Derren Brown, Stephen Fry and others raising awareness of mental health; all the ‘celebrity’ supporters of the various charities like Mind, CALM and the Samaritans etc. It is so important that the conversation is brought out into the open, and that the stigma and taboo is removed. But even more important is the solution and the approach so that we can manage our mental health more effectively.
Lets all be more mindful and open our hearts to others without judgement, with acceptance and patience, using that natural curiosity, building trust and believing we are each enough to meet the needs of our daily lives, letting go of the negativity, and seeing the world with gratitude and sharing with generosity.
